The Head of Hypervisors and Backup is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, implementation, and operation of PayNet's critical e-payment infrastructure. This includes on-premise VMware ESX x86 compute, RedHat Enterprise Linux, fiber-channel based storage, Veritas Enterprise Backup, and cloud-based services. The individual in this role will lead cross-functional teams, ensuring the highest standards of operational excellence, security, and system integrity are maintained. As a senior leader, the Head of Hypervisors and Backup will mentor, guide, and influence the systems engineering teams while driving continuous improvement and innovation across all system operations.
Key Areas Of Responsibilities
In this role, you will lead a cross-functional team responsible for the implementation and operation of PayNet's e-payment infrastructure. Your expertise will be pivotal in guiding the team through complex technological challenges while maintaining optimal performance and security standards. Specific areas of responsibility include:
Leading the design, implementation, and operations of VMware ESXi, RedHat Enterprise Linux, and fiber-channel based arrays (NetApp, DellEMC).
Overseeing backup and recovery processes utilizing Veritas NetBackup, ensuring robust data protection and system resilience.
Driving the adoption of ancillary tools and services such as Apache, Nginx, HA-Proxy, Postfix, Squid, MariaDB, Postgres, ELK, Prometheus, and Grafana to enhance system capabilities.
Leading efforts to stay ahead of emerging systems technologies to improve agility and system performance, aligning with organizational goals.
Managing responses to security incidents such as denial of service attacks, malware infestations, and fraud attempts, ensuring robust mitigation strategies are in place.
Spearheading the development of automated patch management solutions and enhanced monitoring capabilities across all infrastructure components.
Building a culture of operational discipline, best practices, and continuous improvement within the systems team.
Representing the department in organizational audits, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards and policies.
Collaborating with other senior leaders to align technology infrastructure with the company's strategic vision.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, with at least 8-10 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a high-pressure, system integrator environment.
Advanced certifications such as RHCE, VCP, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
Extensive experience within the IT, banking, or telecommunications sector is an advantage.
Technical Qualifications
In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with RedHat Linux, VMware ESXi, Veritas NetBackup, and fiber-channel based storage systems.
Advanced proficiency in programming/scripting languages like Python, Ruby, Perl, or shell scripting.
Experience with systems automation using Ansible, Chef, or Puppet for tasks such as system deployment, OS hardening, software management, and CI/CD.
Solid understanding of infrastructure technologies including SMTP, LDAP, HTTPS, DNS, Jenkins, Terraform, Grafana, Apache, Nginx, and cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP.
Proven experience in performance bottleneck analysis and remediation tools like vmstat, iostat, lsof, and collectl.
