Purpose of Job
This managerial position is to plan and manage youth engagement for the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Programme. The key target audiences of ESD are students and youth which entails collaboration with the relevant government agencies, school communities, tertiary education institutions, youth CSOs, media and others.
This position will be guided by the WWF Mission, the goals and objectives set within the WWF-Malaysia Strategy 2030 and the WWF-Malaysia Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) 5-year Strategy (FY23 - FY27).
The incumbent will support the ESD Programme Leader by facilitating planning, implementation, monitoring, tracking and reporting of youth engagement activities. He/ She is expected to ensure project activities are well coordinated with and/or communicated to all project/programme partners, stakeholders, target groups and any other parties relevant to WWF-Malaysia's work.
Key Outputs
- Lead the Youth Engagement strategy under ESD by designing and organizing programmes suited for specific identified target groups, which may include training, outreach and engagement activities with students and relevant stakeholders.
- Foster collaboration and partnerships with tertiary institutions, youth organizations, partners and other organizations for youth engagement.
- Develop proposals and presentations for the purpose of fundraising for youth engagement activities.
- Execute digital outreach campaigns in collaboration with the Communications Manager to engage youth online.
- Launch and manage a redesigned Volunteer programme to support the initiatives of programmes in WWF-Malaysia.
- Support ONE WWF-Malaysia landscape programme by allocating 20% of work time with a view to add value from an ESD perspective.
- Complete all assigned activities and delivery of outputs in a timely manner, as defined under the relevant project documents, and provide regular reports (written and/or verbal) to the ESD Programme Leader.
- Fulfill reporting requirements of WWF-Malaysia and other donors (including yearly and half-yearly technical progress reports) through timely input.
Major Activities
- Liaise with key stakeholders and work on developing relevant resources for ESD activities.
- Establish good working relationships with project partners (national and international), stakeholders and other environmental education and youth organizations.
- Ensure work plans are implemented effectively and where there is a concern or problem discuss this with the ESD Programme Leader.
- Support ESD Communications Manager in promoting and documenting Youth Engagement activities on WWF-MY and ESD social media
- Provide feedback and also update the ESD Programme Leader on the challenges encountered with a view to address them in a timely manner.
- Formulate and execute work-plan to achieve the deliverables of the relevant ESD goals, objectives and PIRs.
- Develop and maintain project documents that include project proposals, database, presentation slides, scheduling and coordination for training, in consultation with the ESD Programme Leader and relevant project executant(s).
- Maintain a repository of key documents to facilitate impact tracking and reporting and budgeting of the ESD activities.
- Undertake learning and training to improve the relevant technical knowledge on conservation, education system, project management skills and other relevant fields for the benefit of the project.
- Undertake other work as assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Participate wholeheartedly in the general activities of WWF-Malaysia, particularly events and activities that require the full support and participation of all staff members, whether or not the focus of any particular event or activity has any bearing on the job description and assigned project objectives and activities.
In the course of performing the duties as set out in this Job Description, the incumbent may be exposed to challenging working conditions, especially for field-based staff members. WWF-Malaysia does not provide any form of allowance (s) to staff for working in tough field conditions as stated in section 2.4 Bonus & any form of Allowance (s) for tough field conditions, WWF-Malaysia Staff Guidebook on Terms and Conditions of Service, as your salary will commensurate with the duties and responsibilities that the job demands.
Specifications
- A degree relevant to education, conservation or sustainability with 5-8 years of working experience in an environmental or educational organisation.
- Mature, able to work with minimum supervision both in the field and office, and has the capacity to act on issues with professionalism.
- Excellent written and oral skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Must be computer literate and have the ability to use appropriate technology for presentation to partners, stakeholders and potential donors.
- Must possess a valid driving license
- Pleasant disposition, hardworking, team player, committed, dedicated and focused on the conservation cause.
- Good interpersonal skills, innovative thinking, versatile ability to work in a team and work independently.
- Good understanding of current issues especially having knowledge on environmental and conservation issues.
- Must have experience working with youth.
Working Relationships
- Develop and maintain a close professional working relationship with the ESD Programme Leader, to whom you will be reporting, as well as other team members of ESD.
- Promote teamwork among staff members involved in ESD work for the good of the organization and towards meeting WWF-Malaysia's conservation objectives.
- Nurture and maintain positive relationships among Malaysian NGOs and government agencies that have conservation objectives and goals that are similar or complementary to those of WWF-Malaysia.
- Establish a good working relationship with staff members from other departments of WWF-Malaysia for the purpose of securing funding, effective communication and support for the ESD programme.
Salary Range
RM5800 - RM7900 (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)
