Clinical - Meets the patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing patient's speech, language, communication problem and swallowing abilities and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining speech therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
Counsels patients, family members/significant others regarding communication deficits and instructs them in proper management techniques.- Establishes patient treatment goals tailored to each patient's needs and capabilities.
For individual with little or no speech capability, promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing augmentative or alternative communication method, including automated devices and sign language and therapies according to individuals physical capacity, intelligence level and interest.
- Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records including writing diagnostic reports, progress reports and re evaluation reports.
Monitors patient progress, re-establishes goals and revises treatment plan as necessary. Alerts physicians to changes in patient's condition.- Reviews patient's chart, interviews patient/family and consults with physicians, rehab therapists and other relevant clinical professionals in order to evaluate patient condition according to standard procedures.
Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, therapists, teachers and other health care workers, contributing to patient care conferences.
- Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families and caregivers in home exercise programs, recommending and/ or providing assistive equipment, recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
Maintains patient confidence and protects center operations by keeping information confidential.- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
ST operating at more senior levels may be involved in the following ;
Conducting personal development review with colleagues
Supporting/supervising newly qualified speech and language therapists.
Setting organizational and personal objectives
Planning and delivering training sessions
Contributing to the implementation and evaluation of projects and developments.
Bachelors Degree or Advanced Diploma in Special Education, Psychology, Counselling, Sports Science, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Pathology, Physiotherapy, Allied Science or related fields.- At least 1 year of working experience in a similar role.
Proficient in oral and written English.
- Candidates must be Malaysian citizen/ PR.
