Job SummaryThe Sous Chef at our cafe outlet is responsible for assisting the Outlet Manager and Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operation. This role involves overseeing food preparation, supervising kitchen staff, maintaining high culinary standards, and ensuring a smooth operation during service hours. The ideal candidate will possess strong culinary skills, leadership abilities, and a passion for delivering exceptional cafe-style dishes.
- Dues and responsibilities
Food Preparation and Cooking:Assist in planning and directing food preparation and culinary activities specific to the cafe menu.
Prepare and present high-quality dishes in accordance with the cafes standards and customer expectation.
Ensure consistency in food preparation and presentation.
Supervise and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff, including cooks and dishwashers.
Assist in training and developing kitchen staff to maintain high standards of food quality and safety.
Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient kitchen environment.
Collaborate with the Head Chef in developing and updang the cafe menu.
Incorporate seasonal ingredients and local produce into the menu.
Ensure all menu items are prepared to the highest quality standards.
- Inventory and Cost Control:
Assist in ordering and managing inventory of food supplies and kitchen equipment.
Monitor food costs and manage wastage to maintain profitability.
Conduct regular inventory checks and maintain accurate records.
Ensure all dishes meet the cafes quality and presentation standards before they are served.
Monitor portion sizes and ensure consistency across all dishes.
Implement and maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene.
- Health and Safety Compliance:
Enforce sanitation and safety regulation in the kitchen.
Ensure kitchen equipment is properly maintained and in safe working condition.
Conduct regular health and safety inspection to ensure compliance.
Degree or diploma in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
Proven 3 years experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in a cafe, bistro, or casual dining establishment.
Strong knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and best practice specific to cafe-style cuisine.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
Creative and a passion for culinary arts.
Knowledge of health and safety standards in the kitchen.
Willingness to relocate and work at
Sunway Pyramid.
Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical stamina to stand for long periods and perform manual tasks.
