Senior Specialist (Catalytic Cracking - RFCC, PRU, LTU)

Job Description

Job Purpose

Lead and manage process and technology performance, optimization, improvement as well as providing operational support and technical advice for safe, reliable and optimum operation of Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units (RFCC), LPG Treating Unit (LTU) and Propylene Recover Unit (PRU) throughout the lifecycle to allow smooth operation of PRefChem Refinery complex at its intended production capacity and product quality while meeting the regulatory requirement.

Key Accountabilities

1.Technical Studies

Lead the improvement identification and technical studies to acquire approval for plant modifications by evaluating technical and commercial feasibility options to achieve improvements in area of plant energy efficiency and operational flexibility, compliance to HSE requirement including the selection of new technology application.

2.Process Monitoring, Analysis & Troubleshooting

Lead the process monitoring by identifying unit/process potential problem through analysis of key operating parameters, troubleshooting anomalies and recommending proactive measures by improving operating procedures/parameters/guidelines to avoid potential problems from escalating and sustaining safe, reliable and optimum plant operation.

3.Process Improvement & Optimization

Plan and lead the overall execution of RFCC/LTU/PRU plant/facility improvement and optimization study by identifying potential benefit using applicable simulation tools, performing plant/facility trial run, identifying plant/unit performance limitations, reviewing lesson learn and adopt best practices as well as investigating and establishing improved operating guidelines to ensure optimum plant performance, maximize value creation and minimize operating cost.

4.Commisioning & Startup

Lead and plan the commissioning and start-up activities of improvement or modification project and chemical and media loading through effective collaboration and coordination with Engineering team, Operation team and Contractors, as well as ensuring construction is as per design and compliance to project specifications and standards to achieve flawless commissioning, start-up and performance testing of the facility with quality and standard while complying with the statutory regulations and business objectives in a safe and effective manner.

5.Compliance to Technical Governance

Lead and contribute to technical governance compliance by chairing and/ or participating in Process Design Review, Process Risk Assessment (e.g. HAZOP, PHA, etc.), technical standards and follow through Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure safe and reliable plant modification and operation in conformance to HSE standards, sound engineering practices, and statutory requirements.

6.Plant/Process Incident Investigation

Lead or participate in plant incident investigation by providing technical/process input in determining the failure mechanism, establishing the root causes and recommending practical corrective actions for process improvement and avoidance recurrence of similar incident.

7.Technical Support for Turnarounds/Startups

Lead overall catalyst or adsorbent improvement towards optimization product yield and provide support mainly on technical aspects by developing technical management of catalyst or adsorbent changes including lab test procedures, preparing procedure for major/special tasks, performing equipment inspection on existing/new equipment, capturing any abnormalities/defect, providing technical recommendations and updating process database, lead new feed evaluation, conducting Performance Test Run (PTR) post plant start-up to ensure successful completion of turnaround/ start up and smooth subsequent operating cycle.

8.Technical Capability Development

Develop improvement on the technical training modules & plan by benchmarking to the best practices while keeping abreast with latest technology as well as conducting training to upgrade the technical knowledge and capabilities of technical staffs to become specialist and senior specialist

Qualification & Experience

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering or related field with minimum 10 years experience in oil and gas industry.
  • Possess strong knowledge in technical, process technology/operation.
  • Possess strong project management and contractor management skills.
  • Possess strong drive, resilience and is a self-starter with strong relationship building and networking ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and convincing communication skills with ability to synthesize, facilitate and influence.
  • Analytical in thinking, techniques and business analysis
  • Cultivates an active network of relationship inside and outside organization
