Responsibilities
- Design and conduct rigorous economic research projects, including literature reviews, data collection and analysis, econometric modeling, and quantitative/qualitative analysis to explore key economic issues and trends.
- Evaluate current economic policies and their impact, assess potential policy alternatives, and provide evidence-based recommendations to inform decision-makers at the local, national, and international levels.
- Lead and contribute to the development of research reports, policy briefs, working papers, and other publications that communicate research findings to diverse audiences, including policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public.
- Acquire, clean, and manage economic data sets, ensuring data integrity and accuracy, and utilize advanced statistical and econometric techniques to analyze complex economic phenomena.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams of researchers, economists, policy experts, and other stakeholders to foster a multidisciplinary approach to solving complex economic challenges.
- Stay abreast of current economic developments, emerging trends, and innovative research methodologies, and contribute to the intellectual leadership of MASA through presentations, seminars, and participation in relevant conferences and events.
- Assist in securing funding for research projects by contributing to grant applications, proposals, and fundraising efforts.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior research staff and interns, fostering their professional development and growth.
- Develop, achieve and ensure effective and sustainable engagements and collaborations with key stakeholders including Board of Trustees and Founders.
- Ensure that team members are properly developed and competent by providing personal guidance, feedback and motivation
Qualifications
- Candidates must possess a Master's degree in economics or a closely related field from a reputable institution. A Ph.D. in economics is highly desirable and preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in economic research and analysis, typically with a 7 to 10 years relevant experience in a think-tank, research organization, academic institution, or similar environment.
- Proficiency in advanced quantitative methods, statistical analysis, and econometric modelling is essential. Proficiency in relevant software and programming languages (e.g., STATA, R, Python) is highly desirable.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex economic concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in acquiring, cleaning, and managing economic data sets, ensuring data integrity, and using data for rigorous analysis.
- Publication Record: A history of contributing to high-quality research publications, reports, policy briefs, or academic papers in the field of economics.
