Senior Compliance Specialist

We are currently hiring a Senior Compliance Specialist for our Malaysian Branch to assist in ensuring the branch complies with current regulatory requirements and company governance, as well as contributing to the achievement of the Company's regulatory-related strategy and objectives. You will also help with communication and submissions to our supervisor as well as our colleagues in head office.
For this role, we are looking for a team player to work meticulously and professionally as you are required to be proactive and ready to take on a high degree of responsibility. You should also be a confident communicator with regards to internal and external stakeholders.
This role reports to the Head of Legal and Compliance at the Malaysian Branch.
You can look forward to
Monitoring of compliance issues and trends on regulation and governance affecting our company, including regulatory rules, trade association developments, and internal governance.
Advising internal stakeholders on the implications of compliance issues identified.
Ad-hoc and regular Reporting to regulators, head office and branch management, including preparation of internal newsletter and trainings.
Identification and reporting on material compliance incidents to ensure the Company's compliance with timely reporting.
Draft, review, update and support the implementation of internal compliance policies, SOPS, manuals, frameworks and processes.
Coordinate and perform compliance risk assessments while identifying, assessing, controlling and monitoring risks
Oversee transaction monitoring procedures and implement improvements as required.
Coordinate and collaborate closely with business and supporting units on internal and BNM audits, as well as compliance audits.
Liasing with the regulator as required and coordinate regulatory communication.
Legal experience and legal qualifications are valuable but not essential for this role. Candidates with such qualifications may also be involved on the legal side of the team.
You come equipped with
A bachelor's degree or post-graduate studies in Law, Finance, Internal Audit or Governance or other relevant degree from an accredited university. Minimum Bahasa Melayu with Grade C3 for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial institution, with responsibility in audit, compliance and/or risk, preferably in the (re-) insurance industry or elsewhere in financial services.
A sound overview of Malaysian best practices in risk and regulatory compliance , (re)insurance sector regulatory requirements, trade association activities, and familiarity with key areas of compliance risks such as AML/CFT/CPF, business continuity, fraud risk, information security risk and outsourcing risk.
Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to meet tight timelines, adapt well to a fast-paced environment, proactive, receptive to ideas and feedback, problem-solving skills.
Ability to assess factual situations, identify compliance and risk issues, analysse and comprehend statutes and regulations, and recommend appropriate courses of action.
Attentive to details and possesses an investigative nature, with the ability to manage a full spectrum of responsibilities.
A professional certification in Compliance or Risk is advantageous, but not essential.
