This role is for a Senior Backup Administrator on the Marsh McLennan (MMC) Data Protection Services (DPS) team. The Backup Administrator would be responsible for carrying out project-based work on the MMC Backup environment, including (but not limited to) upgrades, new installs and migrations. The Backup Administrator would also be routinely involved in escalated troubleshooting with internal teams and vendors.
Responsibilities
- Work with colleagues to help architect, engineer and implement backup and recovery solutions.
- Technical lead for complex projects that require high levels of skill in backup, recovery, operating systems and networking.
- Deploy and decommission NetBackup
- On-board new storage devices into Data Centers and remote offices throughout the globe.
- Perform Disk Appliance software and firmware upgrades.
- Perform NetBackup upgrades and migrations
- Support multiple operational and infrastructure related backup projects.
- Perform in-depth analysis and problem determination/resolution as it relates to day-to-day operations support
- NetBackup Primary, Media and client server failures/management
- DataDomain and NetBackup Appliance management
- OpsCenter Backup Reporting Device failures/management
- NetBackup IT Analytics
- Restore Backup/Restore Services
- Life cycle management of the software and hardware portfolio
- Support of backups in Public Cloud (AWS and Azure)
- Open, modify and close change control tickets related to the management and maintenance of the backup infrastructure assets globally.
- Open, modify and close level 2 incident ticket related to backup infrastructure assets and help assist other technology platform groups when necessary related to severity 1 incidents when required.
- Create, modify reports related to our NetBackup Primary, Media, & Clients, OpsCenter servers, this also includes DataDomain, and tape infrastructure used within backup infrastructure environments.
- Ensure that all Backup Infrastructure are monitored on a daily basis & that the proper alerting is setup and sent to the right technology group from a notification perspective.
- Deploy, support and troubleshoot NetBackup AIR replications.
- Work with internal teams and vendors on escalated incidents and problems related to backup infrastructure.
- Create, modify and publish process & procedural documents that our team can leverage to support the Backup Infrastructure globally.
- Ensure that all Backup Infrastructure deployed into our global environment meet or exceed the Audit, Risk, Governance, Disaster Recovery & Security requirements documented by policy.
- Implement standard configuration of the Backup Infrastructure to ensure consistency and supportability globally.
- Communication of ideas and information effectively via oral and written communication to a diverse audience.
- Process Flow and Log Analysis for NetBackup Primary, Media, Client, SAN zoning for tape drives, SAN Disk for NetBackup catalog, tape silos, tape drives, media pools, and firmware/software versions for these devices.
- Availability after normal business hours required, rotating on-call 24x7 support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college/university or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- 5-8 years hands on experience in a technical backup infrastructure operational role supporting NetBackup Primary Server, Media Server, Data Domain and IBM tape library infrastructure.
- 2-4 years with VMware, NDMP, Oracle and SQL Backups
- Extensive experience with server networking
- Excellent communication skill required, both written and verbal
- Technical knowledge in NetBackup, Disk Appliances, Tape Libraries, Linux, Windows & Networks.
- Technical knowledge and experience with supporting data protection in Azure and AWS public cloud.
- Ability to actively troubleshoot incidents and escalate appropriate
- Understanding of ITIL and ISO operating guidelines; certification in ITIL preferred
- Strong process development and service delivery principles.
- Scripting skills in one or more languages (Perl, Python, etc)
- Experience with Change Control Ticketing & Incident Reporting and Ticketing
- Ability to manage and maintain own book of work.
