The Role:

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will be critical in designing, implementing, and operating highly scalable and fault-tolerant systems that power the Tatler Asia website and apps. You'll also play a key role in data cleansing and preparation, ensuring that data is optimized and reliable for powering AI-driven systems.

You'll collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and other teams across Southeast Asia, so excellent communication skills are essential. We're looking for a problem-solver who can apply their engineering expertise across various platforms and environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of the architecture, design, development, deployment, and operations of backend services and CMS systems.
• Collaborate in a cross-functional, agile team of 6-10 members, working with product owners, frontend engineers, data engineers, and marketing teams.
• Ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability of our systems.
• Actively participate in solution-oriented discussions, providing technical leadership.
• Manage infrastructure and service costs effectively, ensuring that solutions are both scalable and cost-efficient.
• Research, trial, and integrate third-party online SaaS and cloud solutions to improve system functionality and optimize processes.
• Implement and optimize personalization algorithms to enhance user experiences.
• Lead technical initiatives and mentor junior developers.

Required Experience:

• University degree holder, preferably from Computer Science.
• At least 5 years of relevant working experience
• Extensive backend experience with PHP and Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with cloud service providers, particularly AWS and GCP.
• Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and object stores (e.g., AWS S3).
• Demonstrated experience with agile methodologies, focusing on lean thinking, quick iterations, and continuous delivery.
• Passion for learning and self-development, with a desire to share knowledge and mentor peers.
• Collaborative mindset, thriving in team environments and cross-functional work.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with backend framework such as Laravel
• Experience with frontend frameworks such as Vue.js.
• Familiarity with mobile development, especially React Native.
• Understanding of AI models and their deployment, experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and familiarity with deploying Large Language Models (LLMs).
