JOB PURPOSE:
- To support Head of Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility Department in driving and enhancing Agrobank's sustainability agenda in line with its vision Advancing Agriculture Beyond Banking. Sustainability / VBI forms the basis of the Beyond Banking spirit which focuses on delivering value and sustainable economy, social empowerment and environmental development. The outcome of the role is to put Agrobank in the lead position as a socially and environmentally responsible DFI, without compromising shareholders returns.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Identify initiatives to improve the bank's contribution to sustainable financing.
- Assist to provide direction on enhancing external stakeholder satisfaction by anticipating potential sustainability-related issues and ensuring prompt action is taken to manage stakeholder satisfaction.
- Provide strategic direction on relevant communication in response to external stakeholders (e.g., stakeholder ministries and agencies, regulators).
- Support stakeholder satisfaction through collaborative relationships and open communication.
- Review and oversee the progress of the development of the Sustainability Review chapter of the Bank's Annual Integrated Report.
- Provide functional support to other departments to adopt sustainability-related considerations in decision-making, where relevant.
- Support the engagement of relevant technical experts who will add value to organisational sustainability programmes.
- Oversee the implementation of proposed initiatives within the sustainability culture plan.
- Conduct capacity building engagements on sustainability for customers and/or suppliers.
- Develop the Bank's capacity building plan for customers to ensure smooth transition towards sustainable operations.
- Develop thought leadership material (articles, webinars, podcasts) on sustainability, excluding climate change.
- Establish medium to long-term sustainability strategy for incorporation in the Bank's long term corporate strategy.
- Conduct periodic reviews of the Sustainability Strategy to ensure initiatives are updated to reflect changing priorities.
- Propose suitable response plans to manage the identified sustainability-related risks, opportunities and impacts for the organisation arising from developments in laws, regulations, disclosure standards and emerging trends.
- Oversee the implementation of the initiatives within the Sustainability Strategy across the Bank.
- Develop relevant framework & policies on sustainability for the Bank in line with requirements pertaining to sustainability. Review and revise the Bank's Key Developmental Impact Indicators (KDIIs) on an annual basis.
- Translate sustainability-related priorities for the organisation to measurable KPIs and cascade to department staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Min Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree preferably with major in banking, accounting & finance, environmental sciences, sustainable development, anthropology, or law.
- Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), sustainable development, environmental sciences or environmental engineering strongly preferred.
- Professional certification in sustainability/ESG preferred.
Relevant Experience Required
- 7 years of relevant working experience.
- Experience implementing similar programmes in financial institutions strongly preferred.
- Involvement or participation in community or environmental-related projects / programs will be an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- A strong advocate of sustainability with familiarity in sustainability-related agenda such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) or Value-based Intermediation (VBI) etc.
- Understanding of sustainability issues and its impact to business, particularly the financial services sector.
- Technical knowledge in sustainability taxonomies in sustainable financing and sustainable related products that are currently in the market such as sustainability-linked financing, green loans etc.
- Sustainability Reporting Standards - Integrated Reporting Framework, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainable Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and/or Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
- Has exposure in dealing with various stakeholders ranging from Government, regulator, strategic partner, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), media, associations etc.
- Leadership and people skills. Ability to lead, manage and motivate team effectively.
- Effective communication. Ability to express thoughts, good interpersonal, communications, relationship building and presentation skills.
- Systematic and structured thinking. Analytical with ability to connect the dots on a macro basis, able to see and analyse things in big picture.

Added advantage if the candidate has the following: -
- Prior exposure to development of sustainability dashboards and analytics, to facilitate reporting and disclosures.
- Knowledge of Net Zero and Decarbonisation standards and levers Science-based Targets Initiative, GHG Protocol, Carbon Disclosure Project (now known as CDP), Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF).
- Ability to leverage platforms such as social media and website to advocate, communicate and update Bank's sustainability efforts and progress to the public.
