Position: Post-doctoral Scientist for Cancer Immunology & Immunotherapy Unit

Reporting to: Head of Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Unit
Scope / Purpose of Job:
The Post-Doctoral Scientist will assist the Head of Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Research Unit to establish research programs that are relevant and internationally competitive. The scientist will be involved in projects to validate the efficacy of our in-house cancer vaccine, a vaccine that was developed based on the genetics of Asian patients. He/she will be the main person to execute in vitro and in vivo studies to determine the efficacy of our cancer vaccine in different tumour types, these include both the evaluation of our cancer vaccine using cell line and animal models. He/she is expected to critically review the data and with the supervision from unit head to generate data that meets both publication and regulatory standards. The scientist is expected to stay up to date with current literature and research techniques. Together, this program will enable the active development of innovative immunotherapies and improve our understanding of the immune regulation of cancer patients.
Roles and responsibilities include:
- To lead/assist in establishing the study design, conducting the pilot study, and writing the grant application to take forward project in identification of new vaccine targets
- To ensure that research programmes meet external and internal milestones, and to be responsible for drafting and submitting the necessary reports.
- To ensure that the collaborations are established and maintained to meet agreed external and internal milestones
- To maintain a register of possible grant applications and to work with the Head of Research Unit to prepare and compete for these grant applications, ensuring all the time that there is sufficient funding for the project
- To supervise and mentor students and other internal as well as external scientists, as and when required
- Other responsibilities include:
- To deputize for the Head of Research Unit when appropriate
- To represent Cancer Research Malaysia when appropriate
- To take responsibility for designated projects as necessary
- To undertake other administrative tasks as required
Person specifications:
- Educated to post-graduate degree level (PhD), with relevant experience in immunology or tumour biology.
- Demonstrated skill in handling data, and successfully presenting the data both in spoken (conference) or written (publication) form.
- Able to conduct/learn animal related experiments.
- Experience in study design and grant writing is an advantage.
- Driven by a strong sense of making an impact, with problem-solving skills, including conflict resolution skills
- The ability to prioritize own workload and work to deadlines
- Adopts a pro-active attitude to work
- Assumes full responsibilities within the role
