They are dedicated to driving the adoption of sustainable energy solutions, with a specific focus on developing and operating utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the region.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an exceptional Head of Energy Storage to join our client's team in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In this strategic leadership role, you will spearhead the company's energy storage initiatives, overseeing the development, implementation, and operation of BESS projects across the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the company's energy storage strategy, aligning with business objectives and market trends.
- Identify and evaluate potential BESS project opportunities, conducting feasibility studies and market analyses.
- Lead the end-to-end development of energy storage projects, from site selection and permitting to construction and commissioning.
- Manage the project lifecycle, including budget planning, resource allocation, and stakeholder coordination.
- Oversee the performance and operation of existing BESS assets, ensuring optimal efficiency and compliance with regulations.
- Foster strategic partnerships and collaborations with key stakeholders, including utilities, grid operators, and regulatory bodies.
- Stay abreast of industry developments, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to energy storage.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings, promoting the company's energy storage solutions.
- Build and lead a high-performing team of professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, energy management, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the renewable energy or energy storage industry, with a proven track record of successful project development and management.
- Extensive knowledge of battery energy storage systems, including technologies, applications, and market trends.
- Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning abilities, with experience in developing and executing business strategies.
- Strong financial acumen, with the ability to analyze project feasibility, budgeting, and financial modeling.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- In-depth understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements related to energy storage projects in APAC.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Proven ability to identify and mitigate risks, and make sound decisions in complex and dynamic environments.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in leading energy storage initiatives or managing a portfolio of BESS projects.
- Familiarity with the Southeast Asian/APAC renewable energy market and regional regulatory landscape.
- Experience in developing and implementing energy storage policies or regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency in English or other regional languages is an advantage.
