REMUNERATION: In Equality Now we strive for global pay parity and offer a competitive salary in line with the candidate's experience and location. The salary for this role in New York would be from $137,000 - $172,000 USD (Level 4 role). The salary for candidates is set using a UN Cost of Living calculator that endeavors to generate a local salary that offers the same standard of living reflected by the NYC salary. The salary is subject to change at the time of hiring as the cost of living indicator changes along with the Fx rates.

Position Summary
Equality Now is seeking a transformational and collaborative leader to serve as its Global Director of People and Culture. This leader will be responsible for strategically enhancing all organizational functions related to human resources and people initiatives.Its an extraordinary opportunity for someone to use their expertise to help shape the next chapter for Equality Now.
In this newly created role, the Global Director of People and Culture will serve as a critical member of the senior leadership team reporting to the Global Executive Director. As a member of the senior leadership team, they will also participate in organization-wide strategy development with a particular focus on developing organizational effectiveness through excellent people, recruitment, and culture management.
The Global Director of People and Culture will provide strategic counsel and human resources support on people matters to Equality Nows three main locations US, UK and Kenya and its dispersed teams worldwide. They will also oversee the Global Manager of People and Culture (currently Human Resources). A key aspect of success in the role will be developing an effective global people strategy to support Equality Nows mission, as well as enhancing and streamlining our business as usual people process, for example, our onboarding and offboarding procedures.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Talent Management: Lead and oversee talent management activities including employee relations, training & development, and employee recruitment, succession, retention, and mentorship programs aimed at retaining the best talent for the organization. Supervise reviews and feedback, as well as exit interviews for employees who leave the organization. Monthly reports to be shared with the GED.
Strategic Partner: Work closely with the GED as a strategic advisor and engage with the senior leadership team on the development and implementation of short term and long term human capital strategic priorities for the organization, to ensure we are staffed effectively to deliver the strategic plan.
Training and Development: In collaboration with the senior leadership team, create and implement a staff training calendar and deliver onboarding programs and staff and manager training programs.
Employee Engagement and Wellbeing: Promote and assess organizational culture in line with our values, and in the context of our remote working arrangement, through engagement and wellbeing initiatives and activities; promote a culture of regular feedback, track employee relations issues, and monitor data collected by the HR team.
Employee Relations: Lead and/or assist in workplace investigations and conflict resolution support for Equality Now.
Compensation & Total Rewards: In conjunction with the Global Executive Director and Global Director of Finance, ensure our compensation and benefits are aligned to our values and enable us to attract and maintain the best talent we can and lead on developing a progressive performance and compensation review process in keeping with global guidelines.
Data/Analytics: Oversee the collection and compilation of HR metrics and data from a variety of sources including HRIS, Applicant Tracking Systems, payroll reports, surveys, exit interviews, employment records, labor statistics, and other sources.

The Global Director of People and Culture will be a strategic leader who will build infrastructure and articulate a vision for excellence, adding value as a thought partner to the Global Executive Director and to the senior leadership team. They will have the ability to remain flexible, quickly adapting to changing priorities in order to meet the critical needs of team members. This solutions-driven leader will also have a proven track record of successfully navigating and leading complex employee relations matters, recruitment issues, and onboarding/offboarding procedures and training. The ideal candidate will be skilled at the shaping of strategy down to executing and sustaining process details.
An Enterprise-Minded Systems Thinker
The Global Director of People and Culture will be experienced leading and managing organizational change, with a thorough and wide-ranging perspective on the impacts of these changes on the culture and on all teams across multiple sites. This leader will seek input from Equality Now locations to garner insights and support while developing new and improved HR internal initiatives, written policies, talent management, and performance evaluations systems that lead to the achievement of key objectives. In conjunction with the senior leadership team, they will have the ability to lead and recommend streamlined organization-wide Key Performance Indicators (KPI), challenging others to improve and fostering cohesive HR best practices across sites.
Effective Communicator & Relationship Builder
The Global Director of People and Culture will role model respectful and proactive communication. They will be known as an effective listener, coach, and responsive leader, the ideal candidate will have a collaborative spirit and a sense of humor. With confidence and gravitas, they will have the ability to build trust quickly, while fostering an environment of accountability. Champion for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
The Global Director of People and Culture will be comfortable and skilled in connecting with staff, Board members, and people of different philosophies, backgrounds, and cultures. They will instinctively include the diverse perspectives of team members from across the regions when setting clear objectives for the HR function. They will bring experience partnering with other senior leaders on DEI programs. This leader will also bring a firm understanding of the social, economic, cultural, and racial dynamics in the regions we work in.
In addition, strong candidates will offer:
- Bachelors degree; masters degree strongly preferred
- Minimum 15 years global/multi-cultural HR experience; 10 years in a senior position; Experience working in dispersed and virtual organization(s) is a plus
- Experience working in international organization(s)
- SHRM-SCP and/or SPHR certification (or similar based on region) required
- Project management skills and experience
- Tech savvy and proficient with Trinet, Google Suite, Microsoft Office
