The College Counselor provides academic, career, and personal counseling services to students. The counselor assists students in achieving their educational goals, personal development, and career objectives. This role involves one-on-one counseling, group workshops, and collaboration with faculty and staff to support student success and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise students on course selection, academic planning, and graduation requirements.
Monitor student progress and provide interventions for academic difficulties.- Assist students in developing effective study habits and time management skills.
Provide information on career options, job market trends, and potential career paths.
- Offer support and guidance on personal issues, stress management, and coping strategies.
Conduct individual and group counseling sessions.- Refer students to appropriate resources and services for additional support.
Organize activities, events and programs to promote student engagement and well-being.
- Collaborate with other departments to support student success initiatives.
Work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to support student needs.- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
Prepare reports on counseling activities, student progress, and program outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
Relevant certification or licensure (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor, School Counselor Certification) is preferred.- Previous experience in academic, career, or personal counseling, preferably in a college or educational setting.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport with students and provide empathetic support.
Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and best practices.- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in using counseling software and technology for record keeping and virtual counseling.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with typical office hours, but may require occasional evenings and weekends for workshops and events.
