Reports To: Head of Student Affairs / Counseling Department
- Job Overview: The Counsellor provides emotional and psychological support to students, helping them navigate personal, academic, and career challenges. This role involves offering individual and group counseling sessions, developing support programs, and promoting mental health awareness within the institution. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, empathy, and experience in a counseling or mental health role.
Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with students to address personal, academic, and career-related issues.- Assess students needs and develop tailored support plans to help them achieve their personal and academic goals.
Provide crisis intervention and immediate support for students facing urgent mental health challenges.
- Develop and implement programs and workshops that promote mental health awareness, stress management, and personal development.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and parents to support students well-being and academic success.- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and student interactions.
Refer students to external mental health services and resources when necessary.
- Stay informed about the latest developments in counseling practices and mental health issues affecting students.
Participate in departmental meetings, professional development activities, and contribute to the continuous improvement of counseling services.- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
A Bachelors or Masters degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.- Relevant certifications or licenses in counseling or psychology (e.g., Registered Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with students.
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude towards students from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage crisis situations effectively.
Experience working with young adults or in a higher education environment.- Familiarity with mental health issues common among students, such as anxiety, depression, and stress.
Experience in developing and leading workshops or group sessions.
