The Cloud Engineer will support the Cloud Operations function globally by administering and supporting the Microsoft Azure estate, Johnson Matthey's chosen cloud provider.
The primary goal of the role is twofold: firstly, managing and maintaining the Microsoft Azure estate, a cloud hosting provider that provides cloud compute and storage to JM's IT. Secondary is the 3rd incident and service request trouble shooting/fulfilment, projects, service improvements, and setting standards through documenting policy and process.
The role will support the Cloud Lead Engineer and broader JM IT infrastructure teams with the daily Service requests, process improvements, problem resolution and incidence resolution.

Your responsibilities:
- Strong understanding of Azure cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), resource management, and pricing models, primarily focused on Cloud FinOps, with expertise in Azure cloud cost management and optimization.
- Part of the Cloud team administering and managing JMIT public cloud subscriptions (AWS & Azure) including upgrading hardware, software, and server migrations.
- Collaborate with and support wider I&O teams ensuring critical services such as backup, network, security, software distribution etc function as required across JM platforms.
- Monitor and support global platforms ensuring that maintenance (software, hardware) and licenses are in place in line with Johnson Matthey SACM standards.
- Participate in the CDC on-call rota, 3rd line incident troubleshooting and resolution, service request fulfilment and act as an escalation point for 2nd line Cloud Ops team.
- Proficiency in using Azure Cost Management and Azure Advisor tools for cost optimization.
Requirements for the role:
- Deep understanding and working knowledge of configuring, deploying and maintenance of Azure compute services (deploying of VM, OS installation and maintenance, restoration, and HA setup).
- Hands on experience in deploying, configuring and maintenance of Azure Virtual Desktop, Availability sets and DR via Terraform.
- Hands-on experience in deploying, implementing and managing Azure Virtual Networks (Public & Private DNS, VPN, Vnet, NSG, Firewall) and Azure Storage solutions (Azure Blob, Azure File Share, Storage accounts, FX Logix).
- Hands-on experience in configuring, deploying and maintenance of Web Apps, App Gateway, App Services, Azure Blueprints, Azure Policies and ARM templates.
- Experience working with monitoring, log collection tools and analysis such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics Workspaces, Metrics, DCR's, Network Watcher and App Insights.
