You will be part of our Southeast Asia Client Capabilities team in Kuala Lumpur and work alongside our consulting and knowledge colleagues.
The Southeast Asia Client Capabilities team specializes in local country knowledge and insights. The team extends their expertise to our client service teams, at client sites and remotely, through an agile operating model. Being core to our firm's R&D and innovation push, the team also works with other local and international knowledge colleagues to develop new insights, as well as develop and maintain our proprietary knowledge capabilities.
What You'll Do
You will leverage on your solid macroeconomic and industry experience and know-how to deliver synthesized, actionable knowledge and insights, which goes towards solving our client's business issues or as part of a new knowledge effort.
In this role, you will mainly work with our client service teams on consulting engagements. Here, you will first understand the knowledge needs of our clients, problem solve and leverage your solid understanding of business trends, issues, and concepts to drive analyses (such as market sizing, growth projection and opportunity scan), provide unique insights and deliver synthesized, actionable facts via end products (PowerPoint charts, written memos, models, and framework).
You will work on consulting engagements in several ways staffed as part of the client service team in your area of expertise, and/or provide short-term support delivering key insights in content-focused questions. While the amount of time spent staffed on client service team could vary, the average is typically 50-60% of the time.
Additionally, as a member of McKinsey's Client Capabilities Network, you will help develop and maintain distinctive proprietary knowledge and tools of your sector domain, specific to Malaysia and the region. You will also support our leaders in developing new client opportunities, bringing your deep sector knowledge and mastery of proprietary tools to every client development situation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in related fields such as business, economics and engineering, with excellent academic standing
- Up to 5 years of experience in research, consulting or corporate strategy roles
- Multi sector exposure to consumer segments such as financial services and retail and industrials segment such as transportation & logistics preferred
- Knowledge of related green and sustainability topics will be highly valuable e.g. green financing, green businesses, climate technologies, decarbonization
- Deep local expertise of Malaysia market and understanding of broader Southeast Asia, with solid grasp of macro-economics, sectoral and business concepts and terminology
- Superior problem-solving, analytical and quantitative skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good time-management skills and a flexible attitude, with ability to meet tight deadlines and handle simultaneous work streams
- Collaborative team player, with ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization and in client facing engagements
