The foundit Insights Tracker (fit) Malaysia shows a robust hiring environment, marking a 16% year-on-year (YoY) increase in hiring activity as of October 2023. Month-on-month (MoM), the tracker shows a slight xx% increase when compared to September ’23.
Seen over six months, the tracker highlights a positive momentum across several industries, buoyed by an improving domestic economy.
Hiring Trends – Industry (YoY numbers)
In Demand: Hospitality soared by 111% YoY, due to rise of tourism-related activities. This was followed by Retail at 108%, and Engineering, Construction, and Real Estate at 42%.
Challenges: The Oil and Gas sector declined by 11% YoY, with BFSI and IT, Telecom/ISP, and BPO/ITES also showing negative growth, despite recent improvements.
Functional Insights (YoY numbers)
In Demand: Hospitality & Travel roles jumped by an exceptional 169%, Sales & Business Development by 44%, and Marketing & Communications by 12% YoY.
Facing Challenges: Customer Service roles decreased by 24% YoY, though they showed a 19% increase in demand month-over-month.
