Hiring Overview
In July 2023, fit Malaysia indicated a 2% YoY growth in e-recruitment. With an index score of 78, it mirrors June 2023, showcasing a stable hiring landscape. The MoM hiring trend remained unchanged.
Sectoral Insights
In Demand: The Retail Sector led with an impressive +74% annual growth, majorly driven by the surging demand at general merchandise stores. Following closely was the Hospitality sector at +63%, reflecting Malaysia’s push towards digital innovation.
Facing Challenges: However, not all sectors shared this positive trend. IT, Telecom/ISP, BPO/ITES sectors saw a 22% annual drop, hinting at global challenges. Similarly, Oil and Gas, and BFSI sectors had reductions in their hiring figures.
Annual Hiring Trends — Functional Area
Hospitality & Travel roles dominated with +71% growth. Yet, Customer Service roles faced a steep -45% decline, marking July’s most significant dip.
Several other roles, including HR & Admin and Software, Hardware & Telecom, saw slight decreases in hiring.
